NEW OPPORTUNITY!

You may think that you don't have to worry about your health now. However, you are setting up what kind of lifestyle you will lead. Will you be a couch potato when you get older? Or will you be playing sports and running marathons? Will you struggle with your weight? Squeezing into pants and having to lay down just to zip them up?

The best way to start working on or keep working on your health and fitness is to keep track of what you do on a daily or weekly basis. There is a new site that you can use that will help you. You will also have an opportunity to earn the President's Active Lifestyle Award (PALA). This is an award that the President's Challenge (The President of the United States) awards to students who are active 5 of 7 days for 6 consecutive weeks. How easy! All of you are already active 5 days a week since you have PE 5 days a week! If you miss a few days, no worries. You don't have to log on every day, you can go back up to 6 days and put in the information for those days.

Signing up is easy! Just click on the link on the right titled "Get Active" and create an account. You will need to choose our school and be sure to choose your PE period, that's it. And it's free to join!

Any student who acheives the President's Active Lifestyle Award will receive extra credit, their name in the daily annoucements AND Tuesday envelope weekly announcements.

Good Luck!

Sanny, to creat an account you need to click on the "Get Active" link on the right hand side of the blog's page. Or just got to www.getactivestayactive.com.

Then. on the left hand side will be a sign in area... just click on "click here" link under where it says "not registered yet?"

Still having problems? We can sign you up on my computer in class or after school. Just let me know.

Yudith,
Leave it to you to catch my mistake. :) There isn't a place for my name. I have since changed the post. All you have to choose our school and your class period.
Sorry and thanks!

Just so you know... there are a whole lot of different activities that the site has for you to choose from. You will need to find the activity that you are going to use (as many as you want and you don't need to use them everyday) and select it. Then every day you simply put how many minutes you performed that activity. There is a "physical education class" activity and that you should definitely put on your list. You get 30 minutes right there! You will need 60 minutes a day for 5 days a week to qualify for the award.
Walking counts... walking from class to class (that is 18 minutes!), walking to school & back home or simply walking in the mall! Think about all the activity that you do all day... some of you may be surprised!

Grace,
If you don't feel comfortable then don't. I don't know if they use it for the award or not. But if they do, then they can ask for it once you receive it.

Yudith, I will go over all of it tomorrow. But the answer is not. In order to get the award you need 6 weeks of 5 or more days having met the goal of 60 minutes a day. :)
(oh and thanks for the "yay!" If only I had classes full of Yudiths...)
